Office of Compliance and Policy

Welcome to the Colorado School of Mines Office of Compliance & Policy website. This site provides you with information and contacts on compliance for the Mines community.

On the compliance side, the office is working for you both as a resource and a consultant to meet the compliance obligations for the Mines community and to enhance ethics and excellence across all programs, populations, and activities.  The framework is commonly used nationwide and is adopted from the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics or SCCE and the Higher Education Compliance Alliance.  These organizations identify the following elements for a program of excellence in an organization including:

  • Written standards of conduct and policies and procedures;
  • Designation of a chief compliance officer and other appropriate bodies;
  • Effective education and training;
  • Audits and evaluation techniques to monitor compliance;
  • Establishment of reporting processes and procedures for complaints;
  • Appropriate disciplinary mechanisms; and
  • Investigation and remediation of systematic problems.

The Colorado School of Mines has many of these components in place, such as a growing Policy Library to locate the policies, procedures, and guidelines for the community.  The office is continuously working to maintain compliance with laws, regulations, and contracts to achieve excellence in everything we do. This effort complements our mission to educate students and professionals in applied sciences, engineering, and associated fields related to the Earth's resources; and to do so through teaching, research, and service to our students, faculty, staff, alumnae, community, and for our future in Colorado, the nation and the world in which we live.

For more information, consultation, or questions, please contact the Compliance & Policy Office by phone, email, or stop by the office.
