I perform research in four areas: welding metallurgy, reactive
metal metallurgy, corrosion, and advanced nondestructive evaluation.
This research includes the pyrochemical behavior of welding
consumables, influence of microcompositional gradients on
weld properties, weld microstructure-property relationships,
and the predictability of weld properties from knowledge of
compositional and process parameters.
The processing
and behavior of reactive metals and their containment are
being studied; they are important in many technologies. Calcium,
lithium, titanium, cerium, actinides and other reactive materials
are among the subjects of investigation.
I also
explore alloy phases and microstructural stability by the
use of electromagnetics and other physical nondestructive
techniques. Major improvements can be made in our ability
to evaluate service life and the influence of materials processing
using these nondestructive analytical techniques.
Aqueous
microbiological influenced corrosion and high-temperature
corrosion research are in process. Advanced corrosion sensors
are of research interest. Pipeline steel and boiler steel
metallurgy and corrosion are being investigated
