Advice to Students: I have two pieces of advice:
1. Use any and all opportunities that you can to sharpen your presenting and communication skills; this may be teaching friends topics for the qualifying exam, going to a conference, or lecturing during your TA hours. These skills will help you network as well as make your knowledge accessible to people with various backgrounds.
2. Find mentor(s) early! It could be your advisor, it could be another professor, an industry sponsor, or a fellow student, but find someone you connect with you. Having a mentor is so important to your wellbeing, they are a safe individual who can help you navigate school and beyond.
