Andriy Zakutayev
Research Assistant Professor, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

Dr. Andriy Zakutayev is a senior scientist at National Laboratory of the Rockies and a research professor at the Colorado School of Mines, working on discovery and design of inorganic materials. Andriy leads a team of researchers that use high-throughput experimental methods, including automated and autonomous experimentation, to develop new materials for energy and electronics applications.
The basic science direction of his research involves non-equilibrium synthesis of metastable materials (in particular nitrides), discovery of previously unreported compositions and structures, as well as fundamental surface and interface science. The applied direction of his work includes development of new semiconducting materials and contact layers for solar energy conversion, ultra-wide band gap semiconductors for high-power and high-temperature electronic devices, piezoelectric and ferroelectric materials, and other energy and electronic technologies.
